5th Jamalpur District Conference-2016

Fifth district conference of Jamalpur district branch of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad was held on 4th November 2016. The conference was presided over by the member of Jamalpur convening branch Laila Mustari. Vice president of central committee Ferdous Ara Mahmuda Helen Organizing secretary Umme Salma Begum and member of central committee Rehana Younus were present as central committee representative.

Well come speech delivered by the convener of Jamalpur district branch Meherunnesa khan. In her speech she gave thanks to all and wished success of conference.

Central committee member Rehena Younes told that BMP was founded by poet Sufia Kamal in 1970.  Following the ideology of Begum Rokeya Sakhawat  Hossain pioneer of female education in our country she started to work in BMP. She told that fundamentalism and anarchy again emerged in our country. Bangladesh Mahila Parishad fights against this. Because BMP believes on secular, democratic, men and women equal rights based society.

Organizing Secretary Umme Salma Begum said Rules of procedure of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad guided by 10 principles. Bangladesh Mahila Parishad is a organization founded by poet Sufia kamal. She also told that BMP is not a political organization. It believes in woman human rights. Bangladesh Mahila Parishad works to establish women’s human rights and constitutional rights. She also said, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad has its own declaration and constitution through which Bangladesh Mahila Parishad is managed. She also said all women above 16 years who believe in the liberation war of Bangladesh and emancipation of woman can be member of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad. Bangladesh Mahila Parishad is also involved in international women’s movement.

Vice president of central committee Ferdous Ara Mahmuda Helen told that BMP has been working for the last 46 years to establish women human rights. She also told that violence against women and tortured against children increasing day by day. Though there are laws against these but there is no adequate implementation of law. She also demand full implementation of CEDOW convention and one third women representative at national parliament. She wished that new committee of Jamalpur district Branch will work for to establish women human rights and to stop torture to women and children.

Anew committee was formed comprised of 27 members in which Laila Mustare elected as president and Ajonta Rahman as general secretary. About 100 participants were at the program.
