Bangladesh Mahila Parishad Launches Research Methodology Course to Promote Evidence-Based Advocacy and Gender Equality

On Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 3:30 PM, the second inauguration of the “Research Methodology” course was held, organized by the Training, Research and Library Sub-Committee of the Central Committee of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad. The program was chaired by Dr. Fauzia Moslem, President of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad. Welcome speech were delivered by Maleka Banu, General Secretary, and by Shima Moslem, Joint General Secretary and Course Director.

Dr. Fauzia Moslem stated that while earlier movements for rights focused primarily on raising demands, there is now a need for transformation in the implementation of those rights. She emphasized the importance of identifying areas where such changes are necessary. Addressing the course participants, she noted that the course would help them understand what types of initiatives are required to influence policy-level changes. She highlighted that alongside statistical evidence, qualitative analysis is also gaining importance in research. She further encouraged participants to work not only for personal development but also for societal transformation. To bring about transformative social change, she stressed the need to set clear goals and learn from grassroots experiences, while ensuring accountability to society, the state, and people.

Maleka Banu said that Bangladesh Mahila Parishad has long been working to establish women’s human rights and gender equality in society. To overcome existing challenges, the organization regularly conducts advocacy activities and awareness-building initiatives. She emphasized that identifying the root causes of problems and taking effective measures to address them is essential. She also highlighted that such efforts must be scientific and evidence-based, underlining the critical importance of research. Bangladesh Mahila Parishad conducts its own research and also utilizes findings from other institutions. She further added that the women’s movement is connected not only at the national level but also globally. Global experiences show that effective change requires evidence-based and logical approaches. In this context, the organization has arranged this research course to strengthen advocacy efforts based on research findings and to promote interest in research while enabling researchers to work effectively.

Shima Moslem, Joint General Secretary and Course Director, stated that as an organization rooted in activism, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad undertakes diverse initiatives. As part of its ongoing efforts to establish women’s human rights, the organization conducts various courses. She noted that accurate information and data analysis are crucial for designing effective programs, and research plays a vital role in this regard. She emphasized that research is necessary in all areas of work, and understanding research methodology properly is essential. Through this course, participants will learn the rationale of research, research methodologies, data collection and analysis techniques, and report writing skills step by step.
The inauguration program was attended by 21 participants, including college teachers, university students, NGO professionals, development workers, lawyers, researchers, journalists, social workers, and homemakers. Along with leaders, executive members, and officials of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, approximately 40 people were present. The course will run for two months.
The event was moderated by Rina Ahmed, Secretary of the Training, Research and Library Sub-Committee of the Central Committee of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad.
