Bangladesh Mahila Parishad Observed CEDAW DAY 2015
This year Bangladesh Mahila Parishad’s Slogan of CEDAW Day was “Fully Ratify and Implement CEDAW for Sustainable Development” and some issues were included with the slogan like:
- Stop all kinds of violence against women & girl child
- Ensure political empowerment of women
- Establish equal rights of women and men on property & resources
- Enact uniform family code for all citizens.
BMP published English & Bengali posters and distributed as a part of celebrating International CEDAW Day. Total 16 thousands Bengali posters and 300 hundred English posters were published this year. Posters were distributed to the Development Partners, members of Central Committee & National Council, Print & Electronic Media Journalists, all branches of BMP, Embassies, Concern Ministries, Organizations of Social Action Committee, International organizations, Civil Society organizations, Institutions, Teachers, Doctors, Lawyers & Well wishers of BMP across the country.
BMP further Published Note Book this year containing the 16 article of CEDAW convention, which were distributed among the Students, Teachers of Prime University. A circular is given to the districts committees to observe Cedaw day as usual. BMP’s district branches also took different programs to observe CEDAW day.

Discussion Meeting on 3rd September:
On the occasion of CEADAW day, BMP’s International Sub-committee organize a Discussion Meeting on “Fully Ratify and Implement CEDAW for Sustainable Development” at Cirdap Auditorium on 3rd September. Dr. Mizanur Rahman, Chairman, National Human Rights Commission, Shahdin Malik, Lawyer, Bangladesh Supreme Court, Mithila Farzana, Presenter, Channel Ekattor & Aditi Rahman, Journalist were the Special Guests in the Meeting. Ayesha Khanam, President of BMP chaired the discussion meeting. International sub-committee Secretary of BMP, Rekha Saha presented a key note paper on “Fully ratify and implement CEDAW for sustainable development” highlighted on the eight periodic Report of the Bangladesh Government submitted stating the progress in implementation of the agreement. The program was conducted by International sub- committee member Ferdous Jahan Ratna. A recommendation of the meeting was presented by Mita Mahbub member of International sub-committee.
BMP central Committee members, National Council members, Social Action committee members, Sub-committee members, Media, Dhaka Mohanagar committee members and staffs of BMP participated in the meeting.
Discussion Meeting collectively organized by BMP and Prime University:
A Discussion Meeting on “Fully ratify and Implement CEDAW for Sustainable Development” held at Prime University with the joint venture of Law department, Prime University & BMP on 2nd September. Ayesha Khanam, President, Central Committee, BMP was the main Discussant of the program. Dr. Nur Mohammad, Chief of the Law Department, Prime University chaired the discussion meeting. Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. M Abdus Sobhan, Senior Vice Chairman, Board of Trustees Mir Shabuddin, Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. M Abul Hossain Shikder, was the special Guest in the discussion meeting. International Sub-committee Secretary of BMP Rekha Saha conducted the meeting. Prime University’s Students, Teachers & staffs, BMP’s Organizers & Staff attended the program. BMP distributed the Note Book containing CEDAW conventions 16 article. Total 220 participants attended the discussion meeting.
A TV Spot on “Fully Ratify and Implement CEDAW for Sustainable Development” was made & telecasted to observe CEDAW day. From 2 September to 13th September 2015 Channel Ekattor & ATN News telecasted the TV Spot.
