Bangladesh Mahila Parishad Organizes Workshop to Develop Young Women’s Leadership

A workshop titled “Developing Young Women’s Leadership” was organized by Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP) on 23 September 2025 at 3:30 PM at the Anwara Begum–Munira Khan Auditorium. The purpose of the workshop was to enhance the leadership capacity of young women and encourage their participation in the women’s movement.
The session was presided over by Dr. Fauzia Moslem, President of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad.
Maleka Banu, General Secretary, delivered the welcome speech.


The orientation for the workshop was conducted by Tasnim Saima, Program Officer, who explained the objectives and group tasks.
Fazila Khatun Lata, Senior Program Officer, discussed the guidelines and structure of the workshop.
Participants were divided into three groups.


Group facilitators were:
• Advocate Deepti Shikdar, Director of Legal Advocacy
• Nurunnahar Tania, Program Officer
• Tasnim Saima, Program Officer


Each group held discussions and later presented their recommendations.
Dr. Fauzia Moslem stated that the women’s movement has grown to include people from all walks of life, and the role of young women is essential for sustaining this progress. She emphasized building confidence among young women and involving them actively in the movement.


General Secretary Maleka Banu noted that Bangladesh has a significant youth population, and their participation is vital for social and national development. She said that Bangladesh Mahila Parishad has always prioritized incorporating young voices within the organization. She expressed hope that the recommendations from the workshop will contribute to strengthening the women’s movement, addressing misogynistic culture, and advancing gender equality.


Organizational Secretary Umme Salma Begum discussed the history, structure, activities, and decision-making process of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad to help participants understand the organizational context.


Joint General Secretary Sima Moslem highlighted the need to develop young women leaders to build a stronger movement. She stated that the recommendations from the workshop, particularly concerning women’s safety, will be considered in future planning. She added that sustainable development for women is essential for broader social progress.
The workshop was attended by leaders and members of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, representatives from Bonnishikha and Nishongkoch Foundation, students from Dhaka University, members of Dhaka University Recitation Society, Research Society, Research Council, and young organizers from district branches.


The event was moderated by Umme Salma Begum, Organizational Secretary of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad.
