On November 20, 2025, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP) commemorated the 26th death anniversary of Sufia Kamal, the pioneering founder president and a central figure in women’s liberation and human rights movements. The event took place at 11:00 AM in the Anwara Begum-Munira Khan Auditorium.

Leaders and guests paid tribute by placing floral wreaths and lighting lamps at her portrait. The program featured musical performances by Madhabi Banik, Arifa Akter Kankan, and Shahzadi Shamima Afzali.
Speeches were delivered by the esteemed human rights activist and the poet’s daughter, Sultana Kamal, along with General Secretary Maleka Banu and President Dr. Fauzia Moslem.

Maleka Banu emphasized celebrating Sufia Kamal’s life, highlighting her fight for liberation and independence, alongside her evolution from a traditional family background to a leading literary and humanitarian figure. She noted Sufia Kamal’s exceptional analytical skills and positive mindset.

Sultana Kamal praised her mother’s ability to rise above the ordinary and tackle challenges, emphasizing her contribution to forming numerous organizations for societal welfare. She believed men’s involvement was essential for women’s liberation, which in turn was crucial for human liberation.

Dr. Fauzia Moslem reflected on Sufia Kamal’s lasting influence on thought and society, noting her dedication to following her conscience. She stressed the importance of self-awareness and responsibility in building a humane society.
The event was attended by central and Dhaka committee leaders, national council members, and officials, with organizational secretary Umme Salma Begum conducting the program.
