Experience Sharing Meeting on 60th CSW session
Every year thousands of activists from civil society organizations around the world come to New York to take part in the session of CSW (Commission on the Status of Women), the global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. This year, a team of 3 members from the central committee of Bangladesh Mahila parishad, Vice-President, Fauzia Moslem, Vice-President, Anjuman Ara Aksir and Joint General Secretary Rakhi Das Purkayastha, participated in CSW 60th session. To share experience of participating this valuable event, the International Sub-committee of the central committee organized a meeting on 26th May 2016 at Sufia Kamal Bhaban Auditorium. The experience sharing meeting was chaired by Ayesha Khanam, President of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad. Vice-President, Fauzia Moslem, Vice-President, Anjuman Ara Aksir and Joint General Secretary Rakhi Das Purkayastha, shared their experiences and learning as the participants of the 60th CSW session on behalf of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad.
The discussants said that thousands of NGO members and hundreds of country representatives from around the world participated during the session. More than 1,035 NGOs and a total of 8,100 representatives registered to participate in the session. This Year the Priority theme was Women’s empowerment and its link to sustainable development and Review theme was the elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls (agreed conclusions from the fifty-seventh session)
The discussants shared that CSW event is a vital and significant meeting hub for women all around the world to come together, share ideas and build stronger connections and get new strength for working together to ensure gender equality and women’s human right in every aspects of women’s life. They told, it’s a great opportunity to share experiences and views of the women from all participating countries facing many difficulties as the same problems like our country is facing. CSW session also create potential space to gain knowledge and skill to develop innovative advocacy-lobby tools, method and techniques to strengthen women’s movement in each country context. Representatives from Bangladesh Mahila Parishad also shared their learning from the CSW session that collective initiatives of government, civil society organizations and different institutions are necessary and urgent to meet the goals of Sustainable Development towards gender equality and women’s empowerment. At present global context, involvement of male and young generation is essential to address the issues of gender equality that also came out from 60th CSW session. They shared that the issue of climate change, different terrorist groups’ aggressive attacks and inhuman situation of the refugees especially women and children were discussed with deep concern in different sessions.
The meeting was conducted by Rekha Saha International Secretary of the central committee conducted the sharing meeting. Participation of the representatives from BMP in different events of the session was visually presented in the meeting.
Central Committee members, National Council members, Dhaka City Committee members, International Sub-committee members, journalists and the staffs of BMP attended the program.
