On the occasion of the International Fortnight Day to prevent Violence Against Women and World Human Rights Day, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP) organized a screening of the solo play “Godhulibela” on 7 December at 5:00 PM at the Anowara Begum Munira Khan Auditorium of the organization’s central office.

The play was written and performed by renowned actress Momena Chowdhury, directed by Shamim Sagar. Lighting design was by Thandu Raihan, while music, stage design, and poster design were also done by Shamim Sagar.
Through Godhulibela, the story of an elderly woman’s loneliness is poignantly portrayed. Beneath the façade of motherhood, the play gradually reveals a woman’s emotional breakdown, silent suffering, and a long history of humiliation. It powerfully reflects how social injustice and systemic oppression make women’s lives unbearable.

The play also brings to light the intense anguish of a young survivor of gang rape who is denied justice, ultimately leading to her suicide. Before her suicide, the young woman left behind a letter urging her mother to continue the struggle for justice. Through her simple yet compelling performance, Momena Chowdhury vividly exposes the culture of impunity surrounding violence against women, delayed justice, weak enforcement of laws, and the abuse of power by perpetrators.

The play delivers a strong message that preventing and addressing violence requires more than meetings and rallies—it demands accountability, proper implementation of the law, and effective justice from society, the state, and law enforcement agencies.
Leaders, Secretaries, and officials of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad were present at the solo play screening.
