“Human Chain by BMP: Promoting Diversity and Harmony, Rejecting Communalism”

On September 16, 2025 (Tuesday) at 4:00 PM, a human chain was organized in front of the National Press Club by the Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP) with the theme “Respect Diversity, Avoid Communalism, Maintain Harmony.”
The program was presided over by Dr. Fauzia Moslem, President of the Central Committee of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad. Speeches were given by Dr. Makhduma Nargis Ratna, Vice-President, Maleka Banu, General Secretary, Shima Moslem, Joint General Secretary, Adv. Masuda Rehana Begum, Rabeya Khatun Shanti, Movement Sub-Committee Secretary, and Dr. Bahnnishikha Das Purkayastha, member of the Central Committee and Movement Sub-Committee.


Dr. Fauzia Moslem emphasized the importance of ensuring equality and justice for all, as enshrined in the constitution. She called for a concerted effort by human rights organizations and civil society alongside the state to create a safe environment for all communities to celebrate their festivals peacefully. She urged everyone to understand their country’s heritage, learn about it, and uphold communal harmony.


General Secretary Maleka Banu highlighted the country’s rich tradition of diverse ethnic and linguistic communities living together. She expressed concern over recurring communal incidents during the Hindu festival of Durga Puja and urged the government to take effective measures to prevent such occurrences. She called for strengthened security to allow everyone to celebrate Durga Puja without fear.


Other speakers reiterated that Bangladesh Mahila Parishad has always embraced and promoted the country’s diversity. They urged the government to take steps to prevent any unrest during the upcoming Durga Puja and emphasized that communalism hinders true development. The speakers called on the government to prepare proactively to prevent any unpleasant incidents during festivals, ensuring a joyous and secure environment for all. They also mentioned the need to curb the current culture of mob violence.


The event was attended by leaders and members of the central and Dhaka City committees of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, as well as members of the editorial board, local committee members, officials, and journalists. The event was simultaneously observed by all district branches on the initiative of the Mahila Parishad.
