Inauguration of the Organizational Month Program by Bangladesh Mahila Parishad

This year, from September 1st to 25th, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP) is observing Organizational Month with the objective of strengthening its structure and consolidating its organizational power. In continuation of this tradition, on September 1 at 3:30 PM, the inauguration of the Organizational Month Program was held at the central office of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, Sufia Kamal Bhaban auditorium, as well as across all district branches.


The program was held under the slogan: “Let us consolidate the organization at the grassroots to strengthen the struggle for democracy, good governance, and an equitable society.” On this occasion, existing members renewed their membership while new members were enrolled.


The event commenced with the national anthem and patriotic songs performed by Madhabi Bonik, Mahfuza Rumi, and Arifa Akter Kakon

The inauguration was presided over by Dr. Fauzia Moslem, President of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad. Among others present were General Secretary Maleka Banu, Joint General Secretaries Seema Moslem and Advocate Masuda Rehana, as well as founding member Munira Akter.


In her speech, Dr. Fauzia Moslem stated that in the 55 years since the establishment of Mahila Parishad, the needs of the younger generation have evolved. In light of current realities, she emphasized the importance of bridging the priorities of both senior and younger generations to move the women’s movement forward, calling upon the youth to take the lead.
General Secretary Maleka Banu remarked that the participants of today’s event represented multiple generations. She noted that for the past 55 years, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad has been working tirelessly to safeguard women’s interests. The observance of Organizational Month each year serves as an opportunity to evaluate past activities and engage in self-reflection. She further stressed the importance of collective efforts in addressing the rights of marginalized communities alongside women’s rights in a changing society.


Founding member Munira Akter highlighted the significant achievements of the organization but also acknowledged the many challenges ahead. She emphasized that the struggle must continue strategically to ensure 50% representation of women in all spheres of society.
Young members Suba Sadia and Fahmida Naznin also addressed the program, noting that new members have much to learn from the multifaceted activities of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad. They stressed that in order to move the organization forward, young activists must dedicate more time alongside senior leaders. Even after 55 years, new challenges for women continue to emerge, which must be addressed collectively through unity and commitment.


The inauguration ceremony was attended by leaders of the central and Dhaka City committees of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, members of the editorial board, National Committee members based in Dhaka, Comittee members, young activists, and officials. The event was conducted by Umme Salma Begum, Secretary of the Organizational Sub-Comittee.
