On February 4, 2024, it was reported in various newspapers that on the night of February 3, 2024, Mustafizur Rahman, a student of the 45th batch of the International Relations Department of Jahangirnagar University branch of Chhatra League, along with the help of Sagar Siddiqui, Hasanujjaman, Md. Murad, Sabbir Hasan from the Botany Department and Md. Mamunur Rashid, abducted a couple and took them to room 317 of Mir Mosharraf Hossain Residential Hall at the university and sexually assaulted & raped the wife in the nearby forest.
On February 5th, 2024, a group of 14 members from the central committee of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP) visited Jahangirnagar University. They gave a memorial plaque to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. M. Nurul Alam. Rekha Saha, the legal aid secretary of BMP, spoke on behalf of the group. She said that the leaders and assistants of the student organization at the university are worried about a recent incident of a woman being gang-raped. They believe that these kinds of incidents are ruining the educational environment in the country. They asked for steps to be taken to ensure the safety of students and others, and to create a violence-free environment. The Vice-Chancellor said that the university is already working towards a safe and violence-free campus. He assured the group that the university administration has taken necessary actions to punish those who commit such crimes. In the future, the group will meet with the protesting students, show support for their movement, and promise to help with the case and support the victim.

Dipti Sikdar, junior lawyer Saumik Sharif Shawon, Savar district branch President (Acting) Nehar Afroze, Vice-President and Jahangirnagar local committee President Jahanaara Begum, General Secretary of the district branch Jasmine Akhtar, movement secretary Kulsum Akhtar, publicity secretary Pinky Akhtar, legal aid secretary Nasrin Mahal, members Shamima Malek, Joynab, and General Secretary of Jahangirnagar local committee Hosne Ara and others were present.
