Bangladesh Mahila Parishad organized a Pre-budget meeting on the Recognition of the transition from the Least Developed Country (LDC) to Developing Country: Women’s inclusion and partnership in outlining the future on 7th April 2022 at Anowara Begum- Munira Khan Auditorium in its central office.
Honorable Planning Minister Mr. M.A. Mannan M.P was present as the chief guest, while Zuena Aziz, Principal Coordinator for SDG Affairs under the Prime Minister’s Office, Renowned Economist Selim Jahan, Chairman of the department of Economist, DU, M.M. Akash, Professor of DU and Executive Director of SANEM Dr. Selim Raihan, and Special Correspondent of Financial Express Munima Sultana was present as special guest.
Sharmind Nilormi, Professor, of Dept. Economics, Jahangirnagar University presented the keynote paper on behalf of BMP. In the presentation, she urged the authorities to increase the participation of women in politics, prevent Violence against women, and ensure women’s rights to property and gender equality.
The Planning Minister Mr. M.A. Mannan M.P said the Government was emphasizing women’s participation in the project during the project period and the present. The government is working tirelessly to ensure women’s empowerment by increasing participation in many sectors of the country. He urged all to work together for stable development.
Zuena Aziz, Principal Coordinator for SDG Affairs under the Prime Minister’s Office said that many programs were not implemented due to a lack of awareness among the service seekers.
Renowned Economist Selim Jahan said in his recorded statement that the reflection of hopes and aspirations of women from poor income and different marginal groups should be included in the budget allocations and policymaking.
Chairman of the Department of Economists, DU, M.M. Akash said that good governance has to be established in the state and all discriminations have to be eliminated.
Professor of DU and Executive Director of SANEM Dr.Selim Raihan emphasizes the participation of women in politics, society, and the economy. He also highlighted the need to update gender-based statistics and information.
Special Correspondent of Financial Express Munima Sultana said that still there no proper recognition of women’s labor and still their gender-based discrimination in the labor market.
Dr. Fauzia Moslem presided over the meeting. She said in her concluding speech that without the participation of women, national development will not be possible.
