“BMP Organizes Human Chain to Protest Against Violence on Women and Girls in Dhaka”

On September 18, 2024 (Wednesday) at 3:30 PM, a human chain was organized in front of the National Press Club, Dhaka by Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP) to protest against violence, including rape and murder, against women and girls in public transport and public places. The event was chaired by Dr. Fauzia Moslem, the President of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad. Dr. Makhduma Nargis Ratna, Vice President of the Central Committee, Maleka Banu, General Secretary, Shima Moslem, Joint General Secretary, Rekha Saha, Legal Aid Secretary, Shamima Afroze Irin, Legal Aid Secretary of Dhaka City Corporation, Youth Member Progga Laboni Sadiya, and Mausumi Kirtania from Dhaka YWCA spoke in the event.



Dr. Fauzia Moslem highlighted the increase in violence against women and urged the government to take action to ensure women’s safety and end violence, harassment, and torture in schools, colleges, and public places.

Maleka Banu emphasized that violence affects women of all ages and backgrounds. She called for improvement of the law enforcement situation to protect women.

Speakers stressed on the importance of viewing women as equals with rights and dignity for true development in the country.



The event was attended by the representative of different human rights organizations and organizer from Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, as well as activists and journalists. Advocate Dipti Shikdar conducted the event.
