“Commemorating Ayesha Khanam: A Tribute Event at Bangladesh Mahila Parishad”

To commemorate the fifth death anniversary of Ayesha Khanam, the former president of the Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP), the organization held a memorial program was held in the central office of BMP on January 2, 2025, at 11:00 AM. To pay regard on Ayesha Khanam participant observes one minute in silence. This is followed by a floral tribute at her portrait by the organization’s leaders, organizers and officials. In her honor, Shamima Afzali Shampa, Director of Training and Research, performed a musical piece, and Dolon Krishna Shil, IT Officer, recited the poems ‘Adbhut Adhar Ek’ by Jibanananda Das and ‘Ekti Potakar Jonne’ by Helal Hafiz.


The ceremony was led by Dr. Fauzia Moslem, the president of the central committee of the Bangladesh Mahila Parishad. Speeches were delivered by Maleka Banu, General Secretary, and Ramlal Raha, Deputy Director of Legal Advocacy and Lobby. Maleka Banu shared heartfelt reflections on Ayesha Khanam, highlighting her pivotal role in advancing women’s movements and driving organizational modernization. Her leadership style emphasized collective strategy and smooth coordination among future leaders.

Commemorating Ayesha Khanam

Dr. Fauzia Moslem, in her address, noted that Ayesha Khanam’s legacy transcends the confines of a single memorial, manifesting daily through her lasting impact. She underlined the importance of upholding the principles and continuing the initiatives Ayesha Khanam set forth, particularly during challenging times.
The event was attended by leaders and officials from the central and Dhaka metropolitan committees of BMP. The program was hosted by Umme Salma Begum, the organizational secretary of BMP.
