On December 5, 2024, at 3:30 PM, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP) organized an online meeting with young member of study circle from 15 district branches to discuss the prevention and resolution of violence against women and girl child. This meeting was part of the program initiated to observe the International fortnight for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Human Rights Day 2024, under the slogan “Establish Equality in Family Law, Prevent Violence against Women and Girl Child”
Dr. Fauzia Moslem, President of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP) , led the meeting. Maleka Banu, General Secretary, gave the welcome speech. Rina Ahmed, Secretary, Central Training, Research, and Library, discussed preventing and solving violence against women. Shima Moslem, Joint General Secretary, gave concluding speech of the program.
Young members, including Naurin, Rexona Rima, Chhadni, Tithi De, and Suma Sarkar, talked about key issues like violence against women, societal insecurity, and the increase in child marriages. They stressed the importance of raising awareness within communities and families, confidential legal support for victims, and cutting down on derogatory social media content. They also pushed for educational efforts on cybercrime and online safety in schools and colleges.
Dr. Fauzia Moslem pointed on the importance of stopping violence against women and girls for achieving women’s rights, noting it’s a societal issue. Maleka Banu pledged support for the global women’s movement through their 16-day event, echoing the UN’s urge for member states to tackle violence against women for real growth.
Rina Ahmed mentioned unreported violence due to social concerns, sharing data from newspapers about various cases. She talked about preventing violence through advocacy, raising awareness, and helping victims.
Shima Moslem, in her closing, highlighted violence prevention as a key aspect of their organization, urging youth involvement.
The online meeting included leaders from the Bangladesh Mahila Parishad Central Committee and young member of study circle from 15 district branches, and around 100 participants. Afroja Arman, the research officer, moderated the event.
