“Impact of Climate Disasters on Women: Strategies and Discussions at Bangladesh Mahila Parishad”


On February 28, 2025, at 10:20 AM, the Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP) held a discussion at the Anowara Begum Munira Khan Auditorium (Kabi Sufia Kamal Building, 10, B/1, Segunbagicha, Dhaka). The focus was on the impact of climate disasters on women and strategies to mitigate these effects. Dr. Fauzia Moslem, President of BMP, presided over the meeting, while General Secretary Maleka Banu delivered the welcome address. Parveen Islam, Environment Secretary, presented the Central Committee’s written statement.

Participants from 31 district branches engaged in an open discussion. Adv. Masuda Rehana Begum, Joint General Secretary, shared the collective recommendations afterward.


In her welcome speech, General Secretary Maleka Banu mentioned that humans and nature have been facing severe crises due to climate change for decades. She emphasized the need for proactive roles in preventing these disasters. She added that the impact of climate change has increased inequality for women, children, and vulnerable populations in various regions.


Parveen Islam’s statement focused on disaster-prone areas and suggested research on local risks, women’s involvement in projects, and training in agriculture and animal husbandry.
The discussion brought up issues like child marriage and health risks, suggesting canal digging, budget allocation for women, citizen awareness, and tree preservation.
Adv. Masuda Rehana emphasized coordinated waste management, training development, and localized climate research.
President Dr. Fauzia Moslem addressed the increasing momentum in environmental protection movements to combat climate disasters. She urged everyone to develop organizational plans to uphold women’s rights in light of climate challenges.


The meeting was attended by leaders from the central and Dhaka metropolitan committees of the Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, organizers from 31 district branches, and approximately 100 other participants. The event was moderated by Parveen Islam, the Environment Secretary.
