Family, society and the state must come forward to prevent suppression against women and children
Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP) has been playing a leading role in the spread of women’s movement in the country for decades. With the aim of establishing women’s human rights and women’s empowerment, BMP established close linkage with global women’s movement.
International sub-committee of BMP is continuously working to advance the women’s movement beyond the borders of the country.
Activities of the Sub-Committee:
- Coordination to attend different global conferences (virtually and non-virtually), preparation of different reports and maintains communication procedure with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC) to strengthen global networking.
- Organize parallel events at NGO CSW Forum.
- Advocacy to strengthen the movement for full ratification and implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
- Reviewing progress of Beijing Platform for Action (BPFA) according to Beijing Declaration.
- In Generation Equality Forums, informing organizers and staffs about different global initiatives and updated information on women's human rights and continuing networking with global platforms to increase scope of work with the objective of enhancing knowledge, skills and updating information on women human rights initiatives at global and regional level.
Achievements
- To strengthen movement for full ratification of CEDAW Convention, BMP submitted CEDAW Alternative Report-2022 to UN CEDAW Committee on behalf of Civil Society of Bangladesh.
- Participation in Generation Equality Forum has marked a new milestone for joining the global women's movement agenda.
- Successfully organized NGO CSW online parallel event in 2023 with the participation of 100+ people from the country and different regions of the world.
- Global Networking has been strengthened through participating global conferences (CSW Session, , Peace conference; Event of International Women's Rights Action Watch Asia Pacific (IWRAW AP), working with UN Women and become the member of steering committee of Every Women Treaty (EWT) south Asian coalition etc.
- Women's Progress, barriers to progress has been identified and recommendations have been made in the aspect of Beijing Platform for Action since 25 years.
- Prepared Beijing+25 review report through countrywide consultation with different stakeholders specially women from the marginalized community.
