A Training Workshop held on increase awareness on prevention of violence against women with combined efforts

On 26th October 2022 at 10.00 am, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP) and Women Support and Investigation Division, Tejgaon, Dhaka jointly initiated and organized a training workshop to prevent violence against women in more integrated manner, under the theme, “Violence against women and girls is a violation of human rights, let’s ensure integrated services for women and girls who are victims of violence” at Women Support and Investigation Division, Tejgaon, Dhaka auditorium.

The training workshop was presided over by Hamida Parveen, PPM Bar Deputy Commissioner of Police (promoted as Additional DIG) Women’s Support and Investigation Division, DMP, Dhaka.

70 people including the officials of the Women Support and Investigation Division, along with leaders and officials of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad were present in the training workshop.

In the inaugural session of the workshop, Chief Guest Mr. AK M Hafiz Akhter said, in recent periods of Corona and war situations, violence against women has been increased. He urged women and girls to be aware to protect themselves from cybercrime. He also emphasized on the preservation of evidence for a fair trial of the rape incidents.

Advocate Masuda Rehana Begum, special guest of the workshop said, in particular, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad is doing agitation, advocacy, and lobbying to prevent violence against women and girls.

Mrs. Hamida Parveen, Chair of the workshop said, despite having various limitations, the Women’s Support and Investigation Division is working sincerely to provide maximum support to the victims. It is our pride that the Division is working to implement the Prevention of Violence against Women and Children Act. She called for unified action to increase awareness among people about the safety of women.

In the first working session Rekha Saha, Legal Aid Secretary of the central committee of BMP discussed on the concept of women’s human rights and gender equality. Adv. Maksuda Akhter, Advocate, Bangladesh Supreme Court, a member of National Council, BMP discussed on actions to be taken regarding the implementation of certain judgements containing directives of the honorable High Court to promote and protect women’s rights. Adv. Ram Lal Raha, Senior Advocate of Central Legal Aid Sub-Committee, BMP discussed on Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Act 2010.



In the second working session group work was held. The participants divided into three groups. The participants discussed on the prevention of the violence against women and girls. They presented their work experience in preventing and eradicating violence against women and girls.

At the end of the workshop, the Chair’s speech was given by Hamida Parveen, PPM Bar Deputy Commissioner of Police (promoted as Additional DIG) Women’s Support and Investigation Division, DMP, Dhaka. This session was facilitated by Adv. Fatema Khatun, Advocate of Central Legal Aid Sub-Committee, BMP.
