International Fortnight on the Prevention of Violence against Women, 2021 observation by Bangladesh Mahila Parishad

Press conference:

On 25th November 2021, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP) held a press conference at the Jahur Hossen Chowdhury Auditorium, National Press Club, Dhaka. Dr. Fauzia Moslem, President of the BMP chaired the press conference. On behalf of the Organization, Adv. Maksuda Akhter, Director, Legal Advocacy and Lobby presented the written statement. About 100 persons including central leaders, officers, organizers, activists from different levels, and journalists were present at the press conference.

International Human Rights Day Observation:

On 10th December 2021, leaders and officers of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad attended the rally (Jatio Sangshad to Khamarbari) organized by the National Human Rights Commission. At the end of the rally, everyone attended the view exchange meeting.

On 12th December 2021, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad organized a View Exchange Meeting on “Violence and Rape against Women: Human Rights Violation”. Dr. Fauzia Moslem, President, BMP chaired the meeting. Mrs. Nasima Begum, Chairman of, National Human Rights Commission was present at the meeting as the chief guest. Maleka Banu, General Secretary, BMP delivered the welcome speech. At the meeting Khandokar Farzana Rahman, Chairperson, Criminology Department, University of Dhaka; Dr. SM Masum Billah, Associate Professor, Law Department, Jagannath University; Fuad Ahmed Chowdhury, CEO, Deepto TV; Dr. Kaberi Gayen, Professor, Mass Communication and Journalism, University of Dhaka; Adv. Jesmin Sultana (Samsad) Deputy Attorney General of Bangladesh; Adv. Masuda Rehana Begum, Asst. General Secretary, BMP were present as discussants. Central leaders, organizers from different levels, officers and journalists were also present. Adv. Maksuda Akhter, Director, Legal Advocacy and Lobby, BMP hosted the program.

Under the proclamation of UN on the Occasion of International Fortnight on the Prevention of Violence against Women, 2021 (25th November to 10th December), the BMP sent letters to different ministries, National Human Rights Commission, City Corporations, Police Administration, Print and Electronic media, Shilpokola Academy and other cultural organizations to take the program to raise awareness on the violence against the women and girl child.

On the occasion, the BMP printed 3000 copies posters and sent those posters to the district branches through the Legal Aid unit. Posters have been affixed and displayed at different places of Dhaka city.

On the occasion, the BMP participated in different discussions on TV and radio channels.
