National Council Meeting of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, 2023

On 18th of March 2023 at 10.00 a.m, based on the slogan- ‘Build an inclusive organization, reconstruct a new society’ chaired by Dr. Fauzia Moslem, the President of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP), an inauguration program of the national council meeting was held at Fars Hotel & Resorts (Shahid Nazrul Islam Sarani, Bijaynagar) Dhaka.

In that meeting a total of 500 councilors were present from all over the country. In the inauguration program, Dr. Dipu Moni M.P., honorable Education Minister of the People’s Republic Bangladesh Government, was present as the chief guest. Dr. Shahla Khatun, a National Professor and a specialist in Gynecology and obstetrics, was present as an honorable guest. Suraiya Begum NDC, In-charge Chief Information Commissioner of the information commission, Ms. Alexandra Berg Von Linde, ambassador of the Sweden Embassy were present as special guests. Maleka Banu, General Secretary of the organization, gave a welcome speech.

At the beginning of the inauguration program, a rally was held. Then the national flag and the organization’s flag were lifted. Dr. Fauzia Moslem, the President of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, announced the inauguration of the conference. Dr. Makhduma Nargis, Vice President of the organization read the condolence proposal. In the inauguration program, all invited guests including the chief guest were welcomed with flowers and a sash on behalf of the organization.


Dr. Dipu Moni M.P., honorable Education Minister of the People’s Republic Bangladesh Government, said in the speech of the chief guest that more work should be done for the advancement of women in politics and to build their self-confidence.

Dr. Shahla Khatun, a national Professor and a specialist in Gynecology and obstetrics, said in the speech of an honorable guest that appropriate training should be undertaken to make women efficient in technology.

Suraiya Begum NDC, In-charge Chief Information Commissioner of the information commission, urged in the speech of a special guest that opportunities should be created for the advancement of women and girl children through organizational ability.

Ms. Alexandra Berg Von Linde, ambassador of the Sweden Embassy, said that the organization will be able to take such a decision so that different people will be able to go ahead in the future by carrying diversity.


In the welcome speech, Maleka Banu, General Secretary of the organization, said that the women’s movement believes that ensuring gender equality is aimed at building a non-communal, human rights-filled society, and if women’s empowerment is to be sustainable, the main goal should be to ensure women’s equal rights.

Dr. Fauzia Moslem, the President of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, women’s movement should be taken forward through information technology. The war for the elimination of discrimination between men and women should be continued constantly.


Umme Salma Begum, Organization Secretary, hosted the inauguration program. After the inauguration program, the 1st working session was started. Ferdous Ara Mahmuda Helen, Vice President of the central committee, read the organizational condolence proposal. Adv. Masuda Rehana Begum, Joint General Secretary of the organization, presented the working report of the central committee; Maleka Banu, General Secretary of the organization, presented a short report of the general secretary; Dil Afroz Begum, Finance Secretary, presented the calculation of income expenditure of the central committee. Adv. Kamrun Nahar Joly, member of the central committee, hosted the program.

After the end of the 1st working session, 2nd and 3rd working session was held. In the 2nd working session; discussion and group work were held on the topic ‘Build inclusive organization towards strengthening women movement by Shima Moslem, Joint General Secretary, BMP. ‘Stero type and patriarchy is hindrance to establish women human rights’ by Professor Dr. Aynun Nahar, Department of Anthropology, Jahangirnagar University, member, Central Committee, BMP. ‘Scientific based non communal human education is a pre requisite for progress of women.’ by Professor Sadeka Halim, Department of Sociology, Ex-Deen, Univeristy of Dhaka, Ex-Chief Information Commissioner. Another topic for second session was “Women Empowerment: Full and effective participation of women in decision making’ by Rekha Chowdhury, Vice- President, BMP.

The councilors of the center and district branch participated in the group work. Lakshmi Chakrabarti, the Vice-President of the central committee, presented the recommendations for amendment of the Declaration and Constitution in the 3rd session work; Rabeya Khatun Shanti, the Secretary of the movement, read the general proposal.
